How we live in a digital culture?

We all live in a society where every single action is determinate by high technology, this kind of technology is the result of the adaptation of the human being, but… how do every person react to the need of technological adaptation?

A few months ago I watched this video, and I think that the approach of it is emblematic in this context of old fashion vs technology in common life.

This video is for little children, and that sector is formed by digital natives! They don't have problem for the adaptation, but what happen with… older people? There are two kinds of groups, the people who have to turn into digital immigrants and the ones that refuse to integrate this gadgets to their life.

Looking at the World Wide Web, at an Stanford University webpage, humanity is define as “The humanities can be described as the study of the myriad ways in which people, from every period of history and from every corner of the globe, process and document the human experience”. Having this in mind… did technology determinate humanity?

Nowadays technology is part of human being, there’s no doubt of it. That's why several research institutions have developed a new concept called Digital Humanities.

One of the most interesting approaches of the convergences of technology, digital media and humanities is the new way to create, distribute and expose artistic expressions. In this area of humanities, high tech have been key for the develop of new languages, new techniques and overall, new standards of what human expressions are.

If you speak Spanish and you have some interest about this reflection of de digital era and new media you could check my essay Convergencia de Medios en un Contexto Digital.

When we talk about culture, we are referring to a mix of different aspects like art, language, politics, values, ideas, etc. that are always changing, adapting to the society and the environment. A digital culture implies conceive the nature of a traditional cultural system into a new way of interaction between people, new forms of interactivity, new languages and content (only for mention a few) in the virtual environment that surrounds us 24/7 wich we have adopted.

The real issue on the whole topic for me is summarized in the next question:

How much dependence do we have on the technology and which are the consequences of being immerse in a fully dynamic digital world?
